Buenos Aires (ANTARA News) - Argentina dan Uruguay pada Senin menyatakan bergabung dengan Brasil dalam mengakui negara Palestina merdeka, mendapatkan pujian dari pejabat Palestina, tapi teguran tajam segera dari Israel.

Israel menyebut pengumuman Buenos Aires tersebut patut disesalkan dan menyatakan itu bertentangan dengan perjanjian Israel-Palestina bahwa negara seperti itu hanya dapat diakui dengan persetujuan Israel.

Tanggapan itu dikeluarkan Israel setelah Brasil memulai gerakan Amerika Selatan tersebut pada Jumat dengan mengatakan mengakui negara Palestina berdasarkan atas perbatasan 1967, sebelum Perang Enam Hari, saat Israel merebut Jalur Gaza dan Tepi Barat.

Pemimpin Palestina Mahmud Abbas, dalam kunjungan ke Turki, menyatakan bangga atas keputusan Buenos Aires itu, kata pernyataan resmi.

Menteri luar negeri-nya, Riad Malki, kepada kantor berita Prancis AFP menyatakan rakyat Palestina memperkirakan Paraguay dan negara lain Amerika Latin membuat keputusan sama.

"Pemerintah Argentina mengakui Palestina sebagai negara merdeka dan mandiri dalam perbatasan rumusan 1967," kata Menteri Luar Negeri Argentina Hector Timerman, membaca surat kiriman Presiden Cristina Kirchner kepada Abbas.

Timerman menyatakan langkah tersebut mencerminkan kesepakatan umum di kalangan anggota Mercosur, kelompok perdagangan Amerika Selatan.

Uruguay kemudian segera mengumumkan akan mengakui negara Palestina pada tahun depan.

"Uruguay pasti akan mengikuti jalan sama seperti Argentina pada 2011," kata wakil menteri luar negeri Roberto Conde kepada AFP, "Kami bekerja untuk membuka perwakilan diplomatik di Palestina, kemungkinan besar di Ramallah."

Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay dan Uruguay membentuk Mercosur. keanggotaan Venezuela segera menyusul.

Keputusan mengakui negara Palestina berasal dari hasrat mendalam melihat kemajuan pasti dalam perundingan menuju perdamaian adil dan abadi di Timur Tengah, kata Timerman.

Namun, juru bicara kementerian luar negeri Israel Yigal Palmor mengatakan, "Keputusan itu patut disesalkan, karena tidak akan membantu sama sekali untuk mengubah keadaan antara Israel dan Palestina."

Israel menangapi dengan "sedih dan kecewa" pernyataan Brasil atas masalah itu, dengan menyatakannya melanggar perjanjian 1995-nya dengan Pemerintah Palestina bahwa setiap negara Palestina seharusnya hanya muncul melalui perundingan bersama.

Negara Barat sepakat bahwa setiap rumusan negara Palestina memerlukan persetujuan Israel. Amerika Serikat, sekutu utama Israel, secara taat asas melindungi kedudukan Israel di Dewan Keamanan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa.

Presiden Brasil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, yang berusaha menengahi masalah Israel-Palestina itu, membuat pengumuman beberapa saat sebelum dijadwalkan mundur pada 1 Januari tahun depan.

Kepercayaannya dan mantan kepala kabinet, Dilma Rousseff, terpilih untuk mengambil alih kendali kekuasaan. Ia berjanji melanjutkan kebijakannya.

Brasil, Argentina dan Uruguay membuat pengumuman itu saat pembicaraan perdamaian antara Israel dengan Palestina di ambang keruntuhan setelah larangan sementara pemukiman Yahudi di Tepi Barat berahir.

Menteri Luar Negeri Israel Avigdor Lieberman pada Senin menyatakan tidak melihat alasan apa pun untuk memperpanjang pembekuan pemukiman tersebut.

Abbas menyatakan Palestina tidak akan kembali ke perundingan jika Israel terus membangun di tanah bakal negara Palestina.

Ia berulang kali menyatakan akan mencari pilihan lain jika perundingan perdamaian gagal, termasuk meminta Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa mengakui negara Palestina berdasarkan atas perbatasan 1967.

Sejumlah 104 negara mengakui negara Palestina, kata duta diplomatik Palestina di Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa.

Negara lain Amerika Latin telah mengambil langkah itu adalah Kostarika, Kuba, Nikaragua, dan Venezuela.

Secara keseluruhan, 150 negara memiliki beberapa bentuk hubungan diplomatik dengan Palestina, kata duta itu, yang memiliki kedudukan pengamat di Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa.

Presiden Amerika Serikat Barack Obama menyatakan berharap duta Palestina itu menjadi anggota penuh Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa pada 2011, bersama negara lain.(*)

Buenos Aires (AFP) - Argentina and Uruguay on Monday said it joined with Brazil in recognizing an independent Palestinian state, gets praise from Palestinian officials, but a sharp rebuke from Israel soon.

Israel's announcement of Buenos Aires called it regrettable and stated that contrary to Israeli-Palestinian agreement that such a country can only be recognized with Israeli approval.

The response was issued by Israel after Brazil in South America started the movement on Friday by saying recognize a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, before the Six Day War, when Israel captured the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, during a visit to Turkey, expressed pride in the decision of Buenos Aires, said the official statement.

His foreign minister, Riad Malki, told the French news agency AFP stated Palestinians estimate Paraguay and other countries of Latin America make the same decision.

"The Government of Argentina recognizes Palestine as independent states and independence within the boundaries of the formulation of 1967," said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina Hector Timerman, reading the letters of President Cristina Kirchner to Abbas.

Timerman declare step reflects a general agreement among the members of Mercosur, the South American trade group.

Uruguay then immediately announced it would recognize a Palestinian state next year.

"Uruguay will surely follow the same path as Argentina in 2011," said deputy foreign minister Roberto Conde told AFP, "We are working to open a diplomatic representation in Palestine, most likely in Ramallah."

Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay formed Mercosur. Venezuela's membership soon follow.

The decision recognizes a Palestinian state comes from a deep desire to see progress in negotiations towards certain just and lasting peace in the Middle East, Timerman said.

However, foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor Israel says, "The decision was regrettable, because it will not help at all to change the situation between Israel and Palestine."

Israel responded with a "sad and disappointed" the Brazilian statement on the matter, to put it violated its 1995 agreement with the Palestinian Authority that any Palestinian state should only come through collective bargaining.

Western countries agreed that any formulation of a Palestinian state requires Israeli approval. United States, Israel's main ally, consistently to protect the position of Israel in the Security Council of the United Nations.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who tried to mediate the Israeli-Palestinian problem, made the announcement shortly before scheduled retreat on January 1 next year.

Trust and former head of the cabinet, Dilma Rousseff, elected to take over the reins of power. He promised to continue his policies.

Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay made the announcement as peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians on the verge of collapse after a temporary ban on Jewish settlements in the West Bank ended in conflict.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday said it did not see any reason to extend the freeze settlement.

Abbas, the Palestinian state will not return to talks if Israel continues to build on the ground would a Palestinian state.

Overall, 150 countries have some form of diplomatic relations with the Palestinians, said the ambassador, which has observer status at the United Nations.

United States President Barack Obama expressed hope that the Palestinian ambassador to full membership of the United Nations in 2011, along with other countries. (*)
